I was lucky enough to see this beautiful piece at the Laurie Beechman theater this past July.

The music of Laura Nyro is transcendent, and shockingly little known to the world. Louis and Kate's play brings her songbook to life in a poignant, passionate and incredibly entertaining show that truly encapsulates the simple, yet indelible impact the music of a single artist can have on countless lives.

Kate is an astonishing performer, with a limitless voice, captivating presence and delicious sense of humor. This is clearly the breakout performance of a woman who is certain to become a legend. Whether you're new to Laura's music or not, Kate's interpretation of these songs is guaranteed to move you.

Don't miss your chance to catch this at Joe's Pub in January! It is absolutely not to be missed.

Sincerely,

Shaina Taub

There is so much written about Laura being and performing while pregnant. It was a couple of years after her divorce and a couple of years before meeting Maria. Who was the father of the child? Where is that child now? Why was no mention made of the child after mentioning Laura's pregnancy?

hello all!

just wanted to share this with you-

i'd just dicovered who laura is the other day, (it only took me 42 years)..it was alice cooper who'd mentioned her on his websight upon their nominations to the rock-n-roll hall of fame. alice states that laura is his all-time favorite song writer!

so i naturally "googled" her, that led to "you tube" where i discovered these incredible songs that i never knew- original versions.

i am particularly blown away though, by "stoned soul picnic". i mean blown away. that song came out when i was 10, and i always felt it was very special. [nyro's original version] is one of the best songs i've ever heard,(with all respect to the 5th dimension), it honestly brought tears to the eyes.

after seeing your video performing the tune, i felt compelled to write my first post. nice work!

Louis-
I'm coming to see the show again in January and bringing another Laura lover. I can't wait to see how she enjoys the show. See you then, if not sooner.

OK...West Coast maybe, but how about a SE Asia Tour...specifically Bangkok.

...or maybe a studio version of your show with maybe some of your own tunes tossed in? ...or the DVD!!! Huh? Yeah, yeah?

Just caught your show in Philly on 1/25/2012. Thought it was great. Just wish it could have been a 2-hr show so you could have performed more of Laura Nyro's music. You were great and the skits were very informative. Thanks so much for the rose! I was just diagnosed this year with bc, so it felt like a "hello" from Laura....that she knows what it's like to be diagnosed and was saying to keep my chin up. Take care.
